[ Spring Break Part 2 - March 28th, 2012 ]

March 28th, 2012 Comments Off

As promised! Here is part two of my Spring Break. It was absolutely gorgeous the whole week, a rarity that it wasn’t too hot to function! I actually made it to the beach twice, that’s honestly the first time in years I’ve gone – I even (gasp) purchased a bathing suit, I haven’t done that since… well about 9th grade? Maybe 10th? I probably could have taken more photos at Epcot but I was so stingy about not deleting any of the ones from Animal Kingdom (flowers will be there every year for the Flower and Garden festival, its really rare in my experience that you get animal activity that awesome.) So here’s Disney part two! These photos are actually spread over two trips to Epcot – me and my Mom love it so much we spent 2/3 days there (opting out of MGM, because we’re just not fans, and assuming Magic Kingdom would be SWAMPED because of Spring Break).

As with the other posts, probably not phone or slow internet friendly! Loads of photos (though not quite as many as the other).

My schedule for next quarter is going to be moderately ridiculous. I’m taking three Anthropology courses: Ethnographic Research Methods, Archaeology Research Methods, and Forensic Anthropology (!!!!!!!!), one studio art course: Beginning Sculpture, and I’m retaking French 103 as a refresher course for having to take 104-106 last year and knowing quite well that it’ll be a bad idea to go back into a French class when I haven’t been in one (by that time) for a year and a half. Plus that was the quarter I started having my pain issues and, well, lets just say my grade suffered. I’m quite excited regardless, well except for this whole Friday class thing but its an Archaeology lab so at least it’ll hopefully be fun!

I’m mostly excited about Forensic Anthropology. And by excited I mean beside myself – I squealed when I got my e-mail from the department chair approving me for it. I think my favourite part is the professor, M. Aiello who I’m taking this quarter for Intro to Bio-Anthro told me that I should prepare for the course with a -colouring book-. Yup, he at that moment became my favourite professor in existance. I really hope he lets me TA Intro to Bio-Anthro Spring or Fall quarter, I think I’d die of happiness. I made sure Spring quarter I’d be able to TA time wise but I dunno if he’ll let me cause he knows I have a sort of ridiculous schedule and thinks I should drop one of my classes so I doubt he’ll be up for putting even more pressure on me.

I really am truly excited for this quarter though, beside French which is an unfortunate necessity I’m stoked on all the classes I’m taking. All of them are of interest to me or something I find myself at least curious to learn about.

I know I’m putting too much pressure on myself, but I really want to graduate on time and to do so I’ve gotta commit to 5 classes a quarter. It won’t be as bad afetr this quarter – I’ll be done with my major lab courses and done with my studio art classes so that’s a big relief as far as difficulty and time consuming as far as my courses go.

I’m just going to power through it. I could moan and cry and let it defeat me and just throw my hands up and add on an extra year of school but I won’t. I will beat it, I will get out of here, I will get myself on the path to where I want to be and I will be happy – because I’m getting there, I am. I’m getting back to really being happy and that, in itself, makes me happy.

I really slacked on a post this week and I’m sorry but it’ll get better next week with the new posting schedule! I know I don’t have a huge following or anything, but writing is cathardic to me and I like doing it even to keep my friends and family up with whats going on in my life.

Well ladies and gents I’m finally in the UK! So bring it on all you lovelies at the University of Wesminster! I want to see all of your fantastic fashion.

I was lucky enough to stumble across this Fashionista on moving in day! In true fashion major style she couldn’t just throw on a simple pair of sweats and a shirt to move in; she had to be dressed at least nicely with a pound of accessories on (rings, my favourite and own personal demise!) I want to talk about tone mixing today; we’re told never brown and black, simply never! But I present you, yet again, with a falsehood!

[ are we in canada? - 9.19.11 ]

The Canadian tuxedo — a dreaded statement for anyone to say, let alone see! For years we’ve been told that this is pretty much the death of fashion or does no one remember that one time Britney and Justin showed up both dressed in them? And their relationship ended didn’t it? Exactly! I can’t say there are many more trends that have shocked me when they’ve made the transition from taboo to totally cool like this one has, but I’m not complaining. When don’t right this can be an effortlessly cool looking look, when done wrong, you become that person we all judge on the train!

While the English weather has been cooling down for a good while, I’m still posted in the States until the middle of the month and its only just starting to taper off in Chicago! Fashionistas and Fashionistos alike find themselves in a constant state of give and take with the changing climate. We still want to sport our summer duds but its starting to get a little too chilly to do it. The lovely CollegeFashionista editor Amy Levin likes to call this season “Sall”, a term I think I’m going to have to borrow from her. The Fashionista for this week also did a great job of seamlessly blending her fall and summer wardrobes, but in a much brighter way! Personally I’m all for transitioning your brights and florals into fall wear. It’s a huge misconception, if you ask me, that fall and winter should narrow your colour options down to neutrals and darks. Rock an outfit that truly stands out and brings those bright reds and corals to the table.

Check out my first actual article for the International CollegeFashionista site over here! I’m so excited to start snapping photos of Westminster students! Bring it on Fashionistas and Fashionistos.

[ style guru bio #3 - 09.05.11 ]

Hair colours that hit every end of the spectrum from platinum blonde to pink to my current dark brown have graced the digital pages of CollegeFashionista since the beginning of 2011’s winter/spring internship. This is my third bio for the company as a whole, but the first for our UK site!

I’m a Florida and Tennessee raised girl studying in London via Chicago who spent all of her summers and winters in new York growing up. I’m a double major in both Media Arts and Public Relations as well as a double minor in Journalism and Anthropology. To put it lightly? I’m a bit of a mouthful!

[ matchy matchy - 08.29.11]

We always hear that its not too good to be matchy-matchy when you pick out your outfit before you head out the door for whatever adventures you may face that day, but I’m here to quash that rather black and white rule with some fun and fashionable grey areas! And, well, perhaps a reminder or two about when you might be treading the line on going too far towards clash with a heaping side of way too much.

Normally I’m a more edgy-with-a-side-of-bohemian sort of girl, and maybe even a bit of hipster that I’d prefer not to admit to. But, I have a girly side too believe it or not! And when I saw this lovely lady hanging out with her friend, I just couldn’t help but to snap photos of both of them! Both outfits were too great in different ways for me to just write one article about the both; these Fashionistas definitely both earned a bit of spotlight! A well-executed flirty, girly outfit can be one of the most fun things to wear when you’re out to brunch with your best friends, and this stylish girl certainly got it right! I know whenever I try and dress girly I just miss the mark some how; either I overdo it just a little bit and look way too young or I just feel like my outfit is missing something!

Dresses, shorts, skirts, sandals – these are all staples we see in everyone’s summer wardrobe. But what about other accessories? Now I’ve talked belts, shoes and sunglasses up enough already to not focus on them this week. No, this week I want to focus on something that borders on taboo or eye-roll-worthy at times, but when done right can be the perfect addition to any simple summer outfit – glasses! Now I know, what a hipster thing to talk about right? Wrong! Well, okay you’re right to an extent, but let’s not go there.

Normally I’m all about the Fashionistas, but I do always keep an eye out for a fabulous Fashionisto! Here at DePaul, lets admit it– it’s pretty hard to find a guy who isn’t just in basketball shorts or boring jeans and a T-shirt. Now we may not all look to Jimmy Buffet for style inspiration… but I’ll tell you one thing, our Dads had it right with loose patterned shirts! Now, walking around in a Hawaiian T-shirt isn’t exactly the most fashionable thing, but some great inspiration for a more polished look can come from the idea! There is something so effortless and chic about a guy who can correctly dress down and make casual a decent pair of slacks and dress shoes. Thankfully for you stylish fellas out there this is a pretty easy look to replicate and it flatters most, if not all, body types as long as it is sized correctly.
